I don't think I've every met a more beautiful, adorable baby than Miss Makenna. It took her a little while to get in the groove (as it does with a lot of babies) but once she did, I was able to get a lot of great poses of her. Many people don't understand why a newborn session takes so long (usually 2-3 hours) but usually there are several breaks taken for feedings, changes, and soothing the baby back into a deep sleep. It takes a lot of patience to do this kind of work but it's oh so worth it! Here is a clip of her adorable 5x7 brag book:

I was thrilled when this family hired me to photograph them. They are another photography family (husband and wife are both photographers) so you could say the pressure was on just a bit. ;) They are some of the nicest people you could meet. We were blessed with great weather and the perfect grassy, rustic location (my fav!). As with all my clients, I strived to give them lots of variety in their session and they ended up with a ton of photos (you can never have too many!) It's amazing how many special moments you can capture in a 1-hour photo session. This mom described these photos as a "treasure" and I hope that's just what they'll do. I hope they'll treasure these for a lifetime.

I really enjoyed meeting John Elliot! He was such a sleepy, good-natured, smiley little guy. I've been wanting to do an outdoor newborn shot for a while (which can be a little trickier than it might seem, especially with this unpredictable Alabama weather and the unpredictability of newborns in general) and he just breezed right through the whole thing. I was so excited to get so many great poses of him. He's the fourth child in his family, but the first boy, and I know his parents and sisters are over the moon to add a precious baby boy to their family. Welcome to the world, John Elliot!

Addy and her big sister are always so fun to work with and so cooperative! Addy was in such a happy mood for her session. As a photographer, you can't ask for anything better than that. Towards the end of the session, she did get a little fussy and decided it was nap time. We thought it would be cute to get a few shots of her sleeping in one of the cribs in the studio. As soon as he mom got her to sleep and gently laid her down, she woke up and started giggling. It was so funny. Happy half birthday, sweet Addy!

This was such a fun newborn session. As challenging as it was, Nora's parents kept her awake for a couple of hours before her photo session and she slept like a champ almost all the way through the 2-hour shoot. It really helped us to get all the creative poses that were requested. I could tell that this couple was SO in love with their new baby girl, not to mention each other. Her dad said, "I just can't stop staring at her." What a great little family they have!

Mr. Collier could't be more precious! His mom told me that he has a woodland-themed nursery (greens, brown, tans and woodland animals) so I tried to choose colors, props and accessories that would go along with that theme, but in a subtle way. I'm always happy to accommodate special requests such as that. It can be helpful and fun to have a general idea to bounce of of when setting up for a newborn session. Big sister was determined that she WAS NOT going to smile and held out for as long as possible, but thank goodness her funny uncle was there to make her crack a smile. :) Welcome to the world, baby Collier!

I recently got inspired to do a series of portraits with a fine art/vintage-inspired style. Good thing I have my darling daughter to model for me. ;) She's at a really fun age to photograph. I've always been intrigued by anything old or antique and I wanted to create something that really had that vibe to it. I put a lot into this session. I even hand-painted the canvas backdrop myself, something I never done before. A fellow photographer/artist saw one of the photos posted online and sent me a version of the photo where he added a tintype overlay to the photo. I feel like I could easily be looking at a photo created 100+ years ago! I was pleasantly surprised when he sent the new version to me. I had the last photo printed on metal so it looks like a real tintype photo. I love that with photography in this day and age, the possibilities are literally endless.
People who know me know that my other huge passion outside of photography is music. I'm almost always listening to music as I'm editing photos. One of my favorite composers is Ludovico Einaudi. For some reason, I associate this particular shoot with one of my favorite songs by him. To listen to the song, click here.
The digital world is great, but there is nothing like having something tangible in your hands to treasure and pass down. Here is one of the many options we offer for albums. This is a matted album with velvety deep matte photos. Simple, classic and timeless.

Olivia (10 days old) was a perfect little doll for her newborn session! It's hard to believe that it's been almost 4 years since I did her big brother's newborn session. That was the year (2014) that I decided to dive head first into newborn photography and specialize in it. I still have a canvas of one of his newborn photos hanging in the studio. He made sure to tell me to be gentle with the baby. It sounds like he's heard that a time or two! I'm so excited about how this session turned out and I'm happy to be able to create these memories for this special family.
Here is a sample flush-mount album from Olivia's newborn session.

I always enjoy working with this beautiful little family and I was happy to meet the newest member of the family, Bryson! I did his big sister's newborn photos about 3 years ago. She makes such a wonderful big sister and little brother looks just like her. Welcome to the world, baby Bryson. Can't wait to see you at your next session and see how you've grown. :)

I don't think I've ever met a cuter little chunky monkey than Lexi! When her mom contacted me to schedule her 6-month session, she said she wanted to do a fruit milk bath session. I've done something similar with flowers, but not with fruit. Fruit/milk baths are very popular right now in the photography world, but she wanted to do a fruit that hadn't been done a lot. I thought doing a watermelon fruit bath outdoors was such a cute and unique idea. It's always fun to try something different. You never know how a 6-month baby is going to react to this type of thing, so I was glad that even though she couldn't sit up well (the tub was too slippery with all that milk!) she seemed content to just lounge back in the tub of milk. Nothing says "summer" like enjoying a slice of watermelon. Happy half-birthday, Lexi!

Lexi at her newborn session and 6-month session. What a different 6 months makes! I think they are even more in love than ever. <3
